Monitoring the Temperature on the Composite Materials of Air Craft

Abstract

The hydrodynamics at jet plane is usually affected by the ice congealing on the front wings when flying in the air. In order to prevent wings from congealing, the devices made of composite materials given heat by electrifying are needed to be taken into consideration. However, the power supply on the craft is limited. Thus, to make the craft saver and more efficient in the sky, end user was trying to look for the most applicable composite materials installed on the craft.

Project Description

  • Electrifying to the Composite Materials. The composite material is connected to the anode and cathode. Also, the power supply is needed to be switched to current mode.
  • Pasting the Thermocouples around the Targets. The center and four corners of the composite material are fixed with paste or tape. In the mean time, another thermocouple is set as a control group in the room temperature.
  • End user adjusted the various current output from power supply and recorded the temperature by FleXense simultaneously.
  • End user adjusted 5A each time exclusively. It is necessary to make sure that you cannot adjust the current until the current is becoming stable.
  • To repeat step (3) and (4), end user identified the relationship between current and temperature.

Conclusion

The temperature increased relatively as the composite material is electrified by high current from power supply. However, the degree of increase in temperature became gradual when the current reached certain level obviously. It is very convenient to record the temperature for a very long period, calculate the averages, means, and so forth and complete the analysis in FleXense. We do not have to do any process in Excel or other software. We really save lots of time by employing FleXense. Especially, there are lots of target to be measured simultaneously in such a large area. All we need to do is to add the DAQ up. Actually, it is not necessary to modify the software at all. As far as I know, I could not find any other software fitting my demands. Thus, FleXense is an exact software with flexible functions recording the data I need for a long period.
